Navi Mumbai metro goes digital CIDCO launches QR-based ticketing system to redefine urban commute

Belapur, Navi Mumbai | June 17, 2025: In a game-changing move for public transportation in India, CIDCO (City and Industrial Development Corporation) has officially launched a QR-code-based paperless ticketing system for Navi Mumbai Metro Line 1. The move not only marks a giant leap in commuter convenience but also signals Navi Mumbai’s entry into the league of globally smart cities.

Launched at Belapur metro station, this next-gen ticketing system is set to revolutionize how commuters travel offering faster, safer, and contactless access to metro services.

The QR-based ticketing system, a part of CIDCO’s larger common mobility solution initiative, was inaugurated by Shantanu Goel, joint managing director, CIDCO. He was joined by senior officials including Santosh Ombhase, SE (Metro), Milind Raorane, GM (O&M), and Harish Gupta, executive director, Maha Metro.

“This isn’t just a technology upgrade it’s a commitment to world-class infrastructure and commuter ease,” said an official from CIDCO.

What’s New for Commuters?

Here’s how commuting just got smarter in Navi Mumbai:

✅ Paper QR Tickets – Buy a ticket and simply scan the QR code at entry/exit.
✅ Future-ready Upgrades – CIDCO will soon integrate:

  • Mobile Ticketing App – Book metro tickets from your smartphone
  • WhatsApp Ticketing – Buy and store metro tickets via WhatsApp
  • National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) – One card, multiple transport options, all across India

This entire system has been designed and commissioned by Aurionpro Solutions Pvt. Ltd, in close coordination with CIDCO and Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Ltd.

Why It Matters Globally?

  • Urban Tech Leap: Indian cities are often criticized for being slow adopters of technology. But Navi Mumbai just flipped that narrative.
  • Post-Pandemic Readiness: Contactless travel is now not a luxury, but a necessity. CIDCO’s QR solution ensures minimal physical interaction.
  • Sustainability Win: Digital tickets = reduced paper wastage = greener planet.

What’s Next?

As the population of Navi Mumbai grows and metro ridership increases, smart mobility solutions will be the backbone of sustainable development. CIDCO is not just building infrastructure it is building trust, ease, and digital empowerment for every commuter.
