Navi Mumbai has been drenched by heavy rainfall since late Wednesday night, and the downpour continues unabated on Thursday, leaving several areas waterlogged and city life partially disrupted.
The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has issued a safety advisory, urging residents to venture out only in case of emergencies. NMMC Commissioner Rajesh Narvekar appealed to citizens, saying, “Our teams are on the ground monitoring the situation. We urge all Navi Mumbaikars to remain indoors and avoid unnecessary travel for their own safety.”
Key areas like Vashi, Airoli, Nerul, and CBD Belapur reported localized flooding, affecting vehicular movement. Public transport is running behind schedule, while schools in some parts have switched to online classes.
Emergency response units and the disaster management team of NMMC have been activated to handle complaints of waterlogging and ensure smooth drainage operations.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted continued moderate to heavy rainfall in the region over the next 24 hours. Authorities are keeping a close eye on the situation and have advised people to stay connected with official alerts.
