The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has intensified its property tax recovery campaign and initiated strict attachment action against chronic defaulters. As part of the drive, the civic body on Thursday, January 22, 2026, seized three commercial properties in the Nerul area for non-payment of property tax dues.
The action was carried out by the Property Tax Department under the directives of Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Dr Kailas Shinde, and under the guidance of Additional Commissioner Sunil Pawar and Deputy Commissioner Dr Amol Palve. Dedicated attachment teams have been deployed across all ward offices to ensure effective recovery of pending dues.
Civic officials said that despite repeated appeals and statutory notices, several property owners have continued to ignore tax payments. In view of this, the municipal corporation has adopted a zero-tolerance policy and clarified that no concessions or relaxations will be extended to defaulters. Properties with long-standing arrears will face direct sealing and seizure.
The civic body has formed special attachment squads that have begun visiting defaulters’ premises across Navi Mumbai. The campaign is being implemented in a planned and time-bound manner, with a focus on accurate defaulter data, zone-wise action and daily progress reviews at the ward level.
Property tax is one of the most important revenue sources for NMMC and plays a vital role in funding infrastructure development, water supply, sanitation services, education and other essential civic amenities. Officials stated that continued non-payment of taxes directly affects the delivery of public services.
The municipal administration has appealed to property owners with pending dues to clear their taxes immediately to avoid coercive action and to cooperate in the city’s overall development.
