The long-cherished dream of Navi Mumbai is finally set to take flight as the Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) prepares to commence operations from December 25, 2025, marking a historic chapter in India’s aviation and infrastructure journey. Developed by the City and Industrial Development Corporation of Maharashtra Ltd (CIDCO), NMIA stands as one of the most ambitious Greenfield airport projects in the country.
On its very first day of operations, NMIA will handle 30 air traffic movements (ATMs), with leading airlines such as IndiGo, Akasa Air, Air India Express, and Star Air operating domestic flights. The first arrival will be IndiGo flight 6E 460 from Bengaluru at 8 am, followed by the first departure IndiGo flight 6E 882 to Hyderabad at 8:40 am.
Calling it a moment of collective pride, Vijay Singhal, Vice Chairman and Managing Director, CIDCO, said, “The airport’s operational launch reflects the Maharashtra Government and CIDCO’s unwavering commitment to futuristic infrastructure, inclusive growth, and global connectivity. He described NMIA as a symbol of vision, perseverance, and execution excellence.
Planned as a world-class, sustainability-driven airport, NMIA is expected to significantly decongest Mumbai’s existing airport and establish a strong multi-airport system for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). Beyond aviation, the project is poised to act as a powerful economic engine, generating employment, boosting tourism, and attracting large-scale investments across Navi Mumbai, Pune, Thane, Panvel, Raigad, and the Konkan region.
CIDCO also acknowledged the Adani Group and Navi Mumbai International Airport Ltd (NMIAL) for delivering the iconic lotus-inspired terminal, which blends India’s cultural ethos with modern, sustainable architecture. The seamless coordination between CIDCO, the Maharashtra Government, and private partners has ensured NMIA emerges as a benchmark in modern aviation infrastructure.
With robust multimodal connectivity through expressways, suburban rail, metro corridors, national highways, and the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL), NMIA is set to become one of India’s most accessible airports redefining regional mobility and positioning itself as a new gateway to Maharashtra and the nation.
