The 53rd National Conference of the Indian Prosthodontic Society (IPS) opened on December 4 at the CIDCO Convention Centre, Vashi, registering a record-breaking participation of over 2,600 delegates from across India. The four-day scientific conclave, running until December 7, has also attracted a significant number of trade partners, making it one of the largest professional gatherings in the field of prosthodontics.
Prosthodontics, a speciality focused on oral and maxillofacial prostheses and dental implants, is witnessing rapid transformation through technological advancements, and this year’s conference is dedicated to exploring these emerging innovations.
The event began with 53 pre-conference courses, followed by an impressive lineup of national and international speakers who will lead scientific sessions at the state-of-the-art venue.
Dr. Pankaj Chaturvedi, Director of ACTREC and a leading head and neck onco-surgeon, attended the inauguration ceremony on December 5 as the Chief Guest.
Organising Chairman Dr. Gaurang Mistry and Organising Secretary Dr. Parmeet Banga, in collaboration with IPS President Dr. Shilpa Shetty, General Secretary Dr. Jangala Hari, and other office bearers, are spearheading the event.
This year, two senior academicians are being honoured:
- Prof. Dr. Suresh Meshram – Lifetime Achievement Award
- Prof. Dr. Ramanand Shetty – Dronacharya Award
The scientific committee led by Dr. Naisargi Shah has curated a wide-ranging programme featuring quizzes, paper and poster presentations, table clinics, and panel discussions.
Speaking about the conference, Organising Secretary Dr. Parmeet Banga said, “We have got this opportunity again after nine years to host 2,700 people, showcase Maharashtra’s culture and Ayurveda, and bring learnings from national and international experts to benefit the people of Mumbai and Maharashtra.”
He added that technology is reshaping healthcare delivery, “With artificial intelligence, we can now reach patients through phones or social media. Earlier, we needed physical X-rays—now they come online. I can view an X-ray here and discuss treatment with a specialist in Hyderabad instantly.”
Organising Chairman Dr. Gaurang Mistry highlighted the central theme of the event—Innovating Prosthodontics. “When innovation and research come together, we can offer healthier and more sustainable treatment options. Innovation may seem expensive now, but as Indian manufacturing grows, advanced solutions will become more affordable,” he said.
Adding further insight, Dr. Rangarajan from Chennai, one of the key organising members, said, “This conference reflects the evolving landscape of prosthodontics in India. The participation and enthusiasm here show that the next decade will be driven by digital dentistry, AI-assisted diagnostics, and patient-centric prosthetic solutions. IPS is committed to shaping that future.”
