Woman abandons 15-Day-old baby on Panvel local, escapes at Seawoods station

A distressing incident unfolded on a Panvel-bound CSMT local train when a woman reportedly abandoned her 15-day-old infant with co-passengers and escaped at Seawoods railway station.

The woman requested help from 19-year-old Divya Naidu and her friend Bhoomika Mane inside the local train, claiming she was struggling with her bags. Trusting her, the girls held the baby as the woman said she would get down at Seawoods. However, the woman stayed on board and vanished before they could react.

Realizing they had been misled, the two young women immediately alerted railway authorities.

The Vashi Railway Police registered an FIR under IPC Section 93. Officials have begun scrutinizing CCTV footage and deployed four teams to trace the absconding woman. Early indications suggest she may be from the Khandesh region of Maharashtra.

The baby was admitted to a nearby hospital and is said to be stable. Authorities are working with the Child Welfare Committee to ensure the baby’s safety and temporary custody.

Police have urged citizens to share any relevant information. The case has sparked widespread concern over rising incidents of child abandonment and safety on Mumbai’s local train network.
