Navi Mumbai Crime Branch arrests murder accused after 14 years on the run

In a major victory for law enforcement, the Navi Mumbai Crime Branch arrested 36-year-old Laxman Kakade from Pune, who had remained at large for over 14 years after allegedly murdering truck driver Ajinath Daud during an argument over ₹1,000 in 2011.

The long-cold case was reopened recently following fresh intelligence. Crime Branch officers traced Kakade’s movements through old records and digital footprints, finally locating him in Pune. He was taken into custody on Tuesday, bringing closure to a case that baffled investigators for years.

“We pursued every lead over the years,” said a senior Crime Branch official. “Today, justice is served.” Kakade is now being brought back to Navi Mumbai and will be produced in court on charges of murder.

Local residents welcomed the arrest as a testament to the persistence of the Navi Mumbai Police. Many highlighted the importance of resolving cold cases to enhance public trust and uphold safety in the region.
