A massive almond tree at C1/C2 type building, Reverse Society, Sector 2, Vashi, has become a safety hazard for both residents and shopkeepers as its heavy trunk leans dangerously over a row of clinics and shops.
The tree, which has already damaged part of the society wall, stands directly above a cobbler’s shop run by Aditya Kamble, who says he works under constant fear. “The trunk is right above my head. If it falls, it could be fatal. I had requested the NMMC tree department, but they said they cannot remove it,” he said.
The building itself is in a dilapidated state and likely headed for redevelopment, leaving residents uninterested in filing complaints. However, the risk is immediate for those walking in the lane or working in shops like a dentist’s clinic, a fashion designer’s boutique, and a skin clinic located right under the tree.
A written complaint dated August 18, 2025, was submitted to the Vashi Ward Officer and NMMC’s Garden Department. The letter warns that the tree may fall at any moment and urges the civic body to either trim the tree or provide structural support.
Shopkeepers allege that despite repeated oral requests, no preventive action has been taken yet.
Locals fear that without urgent intervention, the leaning tree could lead to a tragedy.
