5 Foreign Universities set to open campuses in Navi Mumbai under NEP push

In a major leap for India’s higher education sector, five globally reputed foreign universities have received Letters of Intent (LoIs) to establish campuses in Navi Mumbai under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

The list includes the University of Aberdeen, University of York, University of Western Australia, Illinois Institute of Technology, andIstituto Europeo di Design. These institutions will be part of the upcoming 250-acre ‘EduCity’ planned near Navi Mumbai International Airport.

Speaking at the announcement event, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said, “Under NEP 2020, Indian students will get global-quality education without leaving the country.”

Maharashtra Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis added, “No dream will be killed anymore. Students can now study at top global institutions at one-fourth the cost.”

Each university will independently design its courses, fee structures, and admission process. The campuses are expected to begin operations within 18 months, focusing on science, technology, business, and innovation-driven programs.

This move is seen as a game-changer, reducing brain drain and making India an attractive destination for higher education.
